As you should be well aware by now I attended The Curvy Con this year and it was pretty amazing! I wasn’t sure what to expect since it was my first time, but previous years I had FOMO from watching so many instastories so I was beyond ready. Since it was my first time I decided to do platinum because I wanted the whole experience. From day one the vibe was everything I needed in my life.
The first day was the welcome workout party presented by Nike and y’all, I have never seen so many women cheer each other on. I was literally mesmerized by all the love and camaraderie. Mind you most of these women did not even know each other. At Curvy Con you are friends as soon as you walk in and I love it.
Day two was all about fashion shows, shopping and swag. Y’all, I was front row at the Target & Macy’s fashion show. Little ole me sitting front row at a fashion show during NYFW, I mean, come on, this is what dreams are made of. The fashion shows were super dope, but what made them even better is the women represented all of us in the room. By society standards I am plus size. I fluctuate between a size 14 and 16 and the models on the runway looked like me so I could really see what the looks would look like on me. It’s literally something I will never forget. There were so many brands there with shops open. As a blogger it was nice to be able to introduce myself to brands I hope to work with one day or have worked with and hope to continue. Target, JCPenny, Anthropologie, Loft, Tamara Malas, Eloquii, Zelie for She just to name a few. If you are plus size and love to shop Curvy Con is the place to be. Each store had our size. It wasn’t a let me go to the plus size section it was all plus sizes. Can I get an Amen!
That night was the platinum cocktail party presented by Anthropologie, which was held at their store. First and foremost their store is amazing and huge. It was great to hang out with some friends from the internet, have a drink and just soak it all in.
Day three was panels and workshops and if you were platinum it was more swag. The panels were so awesome. The ladies on the panels kept it all the way real. There was so sugar coating it. They were definitely my people. I will admit by day three we were pooped and were moving slow, so we missed the first panel but I heard it was awesome.
We got there just in time when the platinum suite opened. In the platinum sweet we were greeted with tons of things. To much to put in this blog post plus I think being able to see it is better so there is an IGTV video going up soon showing all the swag. Fashion Nova was the main brand so we got a bag of clothes from them. Other brands were QVC, The Strapper Stretch ( a bra clip) and Sol Janeiro. We also got a large bag full of products from lotion to peanut butter to everything in between. You will see it all in the video so make sure and check it out.
I sat through two Women’s Leadership Sessions/Fireside Chat “How to Build Your Brand” with Nabela Noor and “How to Break the Glass” with Jenn Lyon who currently stars on Claws. Both chats were so motivating and so inspiring. They both made me want to work even harder to make my dreams come true.
The closing party presented by JCPenny was the best closing party ever. This was like the party of parties. Usually when I’m out at parties I’m ready to go, but the DJ who is also one of the cofounders of Curvy Con was so bomb, food was good and the vibe was just amazing. So many women just hyping each other up. Tons of photo ops and just a good time. It was definitely the place to be. I hadn’t had that much fun at a party in a long time.
In conclusion Curvy Con is everything you didn’t know you needed. Being around so many people that look like you, who have been in a store when the largest size they have is an 8 it was nice to be around people who get it. It was also nice to mingle with brands who see you. I’ll definitely be back next year. The only thing I would do different is I wouldn’t do platinum. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing it just wasn’t worth it for me. I feel like being glitter would have given me the exact same experience and same vibe. I didn’t feel that special been platinum except for the suite and that just goes to show you what Curvy Con is about besides the suite and special seating we were all treated the same. I love that about the event.
Oh, and did I mention I was featured on InStyle.com as one of The Plus-Size Women Who Were Ruling the Street Style Game During Fashion Week. Check me out and all the other ladies.
